March 2012

As part of a national Boy Scouts of America program, the Chippewa Valley Council is excited to announce their participation in the Voice of the Scout. This program is being adopted as a key way to collect experiences of members as they participate in Scouting.
Beginning on March 13, 2012, parents, Scouts & Venturers over 14, volunteers and chartered organizations will begin seeing surveys delivered into their email inboxes for Voice of the Scout. The email will come directly from the Boy Scouts of America.
Surveys will stay open for three weeks, then information will be used to help us make key decisions to drive Scouting forward, as guided by the people that matter most--our members.
Voice of the Scout is how we will help guide our decision-making for our future programs and operational delivery. Please take a few minutes of your time to participate!

KODIAK CHALLENGE
Who: Males and Females at least 14 years old
When : August 12-18, 2012
Where: Rivers of Northern Wisconsin
Why: To further your leadership skills in a high adventure setting.
Kodiak Challenge is advanced leadership training for young men and women in a high adventure setting, stressing servant leadership and the practical application of ILSC, NYLT and NAYLE skills. This is a hands-on skills course conducted under the open sky, not a classroom. You’ll be pushed out of your comfort zone, tested mentally and physically as your leadership skills grow. Kodiak Challenge is an adventure with a purpose.
Kodiak Challenge isn’t for everyone. In order to attend you must be a registered Boy Scout, Varsity Scout, or Venturer. You have to be at least 14 years old and have completed the eighth grade. If you are a Venturer you must have completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews. If you are a Boy Scout or Varsity Team member you must have completed National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT). National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE) is a plus, as is a prior Kodiak Challenge course. (Because each Kodiak Challenge is unique, you can attend more than one course and learn something new each time.)

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We are looking for volunteers to help with different office tasks. Whether it's stuffing envelopes for a bulk mailing or helping prepare for an event, we need extra hands! We are especially in need of a reliable person to answer phones and be ready for Scout Shop Customers on the first Tuesday of every month at 2:00pm while staff are in their monthly meeting. If you are interested in volunteering your time for Tuesdays or to be placed on a call list for other jobs, please call the Scout office at 715-832-6671 or email Terri at terjay@bsamail.org.

NEW MAILBOX SLOT
The Council Office now has a mailbox slot next to the front door. If you have any paperwork or thin items to drop off after office hours (M-F 8:30am - 5:00pm), feel free to drop it in our mail slot!
