Commissioners
Commissioners are district and council leaders who help Scout units succeed. They coach and consult with adult leaders of Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, and Venturing crews. Commissioners help maintain the standards of the Boy Scouts of America. They also oversee the unit charter renewal plan so that each unit reregisters on time with an optimum number of youth and adult members.
Chattahoochee Council's Focus:
Commissioners Recruitment Plan
As part of our Council's emphasis on Commissioners Recruitment, each of our Districts are charged with recruiting a full staff of Assistant District Commissioners. The number of ADCs is based on requirements of the Unit Commissioners Staff. Ideally ADCs will support no more than five Unit Commissioners. Once in placer, with assistance from the District Commissioners, ADCs are expected to recruit Unit Commissioners to support the units in their area of responsibility.
School Night!
A major focus for Commissioners for fall 2011 is the School Night round-up program. Commissioners are expected to take an integral part in this process in assisting their assigned units. Specific duties include assisting the unit leader in recruiting parents to serve in the various positions in the Pack. The goal is to recruit one parent per Scout to serve on the Pack Committee, as a Den Leader, Assistant Cubmaster, Pack Treasurer, Pack Advancement Chair, Pack Activities Coordinator, etc. The Unit Commissioner’s role is to explain the Scouting program to parent volunteers through one-on-one coaching.
Consolidated Re-charter
All Districts have moved their re-charter dates to December, 2011. Re-charter information will be distributed during the October Roundtable, giving all units approximately 2 months to complete the re-charter process by the first week of December, well before the lapse date of December 31st. All Commissioners should place special emphasis during this time to ensure their units submit their re-charters through the “Internet Re-charter process”, verifying that information is correct and locating those things that might derail the successful posting of the unit’s re-charter before the lapse date. The Internet Re-chartering Tool may be found when signing on to an individual myscouting.org account.
